2. Repair and rescue of the cochlear epithelium

Age-related hearing loss or presbycusis is a major health problem. Cumulative effects of aging on hearing are exacerbated by genetic and environmental factors such as noise or drug exposure. Here, we are using multi-disciplinary approaches to decipher the mechanisms of presbycusis and to develop therapies against hearing loss at elderly.

2 2 illustration 01 smallUsing molecular and cellular biology together with biochemistry, we aim at understand signaling pathways underlying the cochlear neuro-epithelium senescence. Pharmacological or genetic rescue is then applied for prevent the hearing loss in age-related hearing loss models.

(B) outer hair cell stereociliary bundle magnification. In the age-related hearing loss animal model, hair cells degenerate (B and C).
