Technical platforms
The Functional Investigation Platform in the Institut of
Neurosciences of Montpellier (INM) is devoted in production
and analysis of in vivo models, mice essentially,
of human sensory and motor pathologies including blindness,
deafness, tinnitus, vertigo, pain, motor impairments.

It comprises both conventional and A2 housing sectors allowing
both elaboration of new experimental models and assessment
of cell and gene therapies. It also provides analytical and
functional tools including electrophysiology (set-up for
the recording of evoked potential from visual, auditory,
vestibular and proprioceptive systems) and behavioural tests
(study of locomotion, somesthesia and balance, investigation
of tinnitus).

The team working on the platform is composed
of five persons, four technicians managed by one ingenior
assistant who coordinates the technical activities. The
scientific aspects are under the responsibility of a
researcher. In addition to the daily maintenance tasks,
the technicians are involved in the training of the users
in animal manipulation and are involved in different
experimental and scientific activities including strain
breeding, genotyping, pharmacological treatments, behavioural
analysis, tissue and organ collection and fixation.

The platform interacts with the other technical
plateaux implanted in INM, i.e. histo-immunocytology,
cell imagery, neurogenetic, in situ hybridization
and the electro-physiology laboratories including visual,
auditory, vestibular and proprioceptive sectors. |
Together with the platforms belonging to the Institut of
Functional Genomic (IGF) and the Institut of Human Genetic
(IGH), the Functional Investigation Platform in INM is part
of the Regional Federative Institute 3 (IFR3). It also participates
in the activity of the Animal facilities Network of Montpellier
(RAM). Therefore, this platform is open to the scientific
community of Montpellier.
