Recent discoveries
1st clinical trial in acute traumatic deafness. A clinical trial was performed in Munich, on December 31, 2005, to treat the patients with an acute acoustic trauma (shootings of fireworks, discotheques). The patients received a trans-tympanic application of a new active product, which was conceived and tested by the team of Pr Jean-Luc Puel (team 02) of the INM. The team showed that this product allows a better recovery after the trauma and that it protects from the auditory loss. The trial was conducted by Auris Medical, a company whose goal is to develop new drugs for the auditory deficits.

INM: reference center
the ophthalmologic and ENT consultations joined to form a Research Center for Rare Diseases: “inherited sensory defects”.For more than 10 years, teams have worked on the sensory rare diseases in Montpellier. On November 19, 2004, the ministry for Health and Social Protection designated 34 centers of reference for the rare diseases. The center of reference for the inherited sensory defects, located in Montpellier is one of the selected centers.
